We are often asked what is the difference between English and American Golden Retrievers. In our opinion a Golden Retriever is a Golden Retriever whether it is imported from another country or born in The US. But there are some differences.
Most American Golden Retrievers tend to have more coat, are golden to dark golden in color, have larger bones with a stockier build.
The average English Golden has less coat, are white to cream in color, a more slender build and smaller size.
We like to cross the English Golden Retriever with the American Golden Retriever. This increases the gene pool and gives the coat highlights with a fuller coat.
There is a myth going around that English lines are healthier. Not true. Just like the American lines you need to know what you are breeding and what runs in the lines including temperament.
